My Inspiration

Paige was born in November of 2007. When I was pregnant with her my husband so graciously bought me a mothers day present, that present was my sewing machine. Little did either of us know what kind of madness that it was about to create. He knew that I had grown up making blankets and potholders and such. He also knew that I really wanted to make the new baby we were about to have some receving blankets and burp rags. So he surprised me with the little machine that I now can not live without!

The first few things I sewed on it were very simple flannel receving blankets and flanel and terry cloth burp rags that my mom had given me patterns to. they went together in an afternoon and then my sewing Machine sat in it's case for months waiting for my inspiration to arrive.

I had never even thought of sewing clothes. when I was younger the only thing I ever attempted were bags and hats and Blankets. I remember even thinking I would never make my kids wear silly hand made outfits. then again, who knew I could make somthing so fasionable out of fabric. It didn't have to be frumpy to be home made. I all of the sudden was measuring my baby and making her things that you could only buy at pricy botiques. Maybe it was my taste in clothing and limited budget that started it all, but I would see somthing I loved and wanted to buy, but knew my husband would Flip if I spent $40.00 on a skirt for a toddler. So I would just draw out the pattern on butcher paper and buy 2.00 a yard fabric and put it together. I soon realized I had somewhat of a eye for sewing clothing. who would have thought. :)

here is how it all began and just a small sample of what I have sewn for Paige the past two years.

How it all started.

Well I would actually say my sewing stems back to when I was just a kid. Probably no older then age 4. I remember sitting on my grandmas living room floor with some brown yarn and plastic canvas with a yarn needle and making coasters for my Dad for Fathers Day. I am not so sure how accurate this memory is, I might have made them at my house.. but for some reason the memory I have takes place at Grandma and Grandpa's house.

My next memories I am a bit older probably closer to the age of 7. My sister and I would call my mom at work in the summers (I am sure we had a sitter there) and ask if we could have certain fabrics in one of her huge totes of textiles. I can't remember a time where she said no, but we still asked just in case. ANYWAYS, we sewed a number of things together with this fabric from pillows to a precious make believe friend we called Dr. Shrinkaneedle. Either way. we were strange kids that would rather craft something out of fabric then play video games.

When I was about 10 I made a blanket that I still have but is much too small for me to use now. it was red and white I LOVED it. I remember picking out the fabrics at JoAnns and it being a very special thing to get to buy my own fabric.

to this day I have two of my very own Giant Totes of Textiles that I am sure that my two girls will be asking me in a few years if they can have random pieces of fabric out of them, and I will never hesitate to tell them to take what they want. :)
